‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: Filming in Spain leads to major tourism increase
If there is one simple thing that we have learned about “Game of Thrones” filming over the past several months, it is this: If you build new sets, they will come. Not only that, but they will continue to come for many months after you are gone.
Some of the many filming locations for the HBO hit have already seen tremendous boosts to their tourism business, with the two leading the way being Dubrovnik, Croatia (the site of King’s Landing), and many parts of Northern Ireland around Belfast. The majority of the interior shots are filmed in the country, which serves as the home base. There have also been other scenes over the years filmed in parts of Iceland and Morocco.
Today, we are reporting on the latest country entering the fray in Spain, which is going to serve as the show’s representation of Dorne when season 5 airs in the spring. Per the Hollywood Reporter, U.S. Ambassador to Spain James Costos claims that “the intial information shows that Seville and Osuna, the two locations for the shoot, have already increased their visitor numbers around 15 percent.”
For the time being, we imagine that most of the tourism figures coming in to these two regions are probably just from people nearby the region. Once the HBO show actually airs some of these scenes, it could rise to new heights.
The local governments are already trying to produce maps that show some of the locations being used for the show, which is smart given how many other countries have tried to market filming locations. New York is the site of many “Sex and the City” tours, while Albuquerque has already made a ton of many for being the home of “Breaking Bad.”

Nice article. I love game of Thrones locations. My favorite being Dubrovnik and Iceland.
I wish I can do a full European tour.
