‘Longmire’ season 4 notes: Petitions, stampedes, and higher-ups

Big news -Before we start up anything else in this “Longmire” story, let’s kick this off with some news from the business side of the TV industry: Chairman Abbe Raven of A+E Networks is set to resign on February 2.

Fans of the show may know this name as one of the executives who ultimately had to make the call on the show’s A&E fate, though to be fair there were also many others involved in making that choice. As bummed and frustrated as we were by the show’s cancellation, we also have to use some perspective here in nothing that she was one of the reasons why A&E was built up as a network in the first place, and this was the network who decided to take the show after it was originally developed for TNT. So in the end, we’d describe the emotion here as bittersweet, but we have to once again state that it is foolish to lay all of the acclaim or the blame on a single person.

Moving forward…

A new stampede – Those who following the social-media campaigns for the show should know that there is another stampede happening tonight at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. The hashtag for the week is #LongmireLives, which you really shouldn’t use until the event begins. This helps to ensure maximum firepower so that it becomes a trending topic like #Longmire4 and #MoreLongmire were in previous weeks.

Petition success – The petition to save the show (which you can view here) now has over 10,000 signatures! This is extremely impressive for something so grassroots. It is easy for networks to ignore petitions that only have a few hundred names on them, but this is starting to get near the point where some should definitely take notice.
