‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 spoilers: Does Nina Dobrev’s Elena have new love interest?

We have to give the producers of “The Vampire Diaries” a little bit of credit right now for one simple reason: They’ve got some guys for keeping Damon away from Mystic Falls / Whitmore for as long as they have.

The November 13 episode could in theory feature the return of Damon, but if it does, the show is doing a careful job not showing it. Instead, the photo attached here features Nina Dobrev’s Elena alongside her fellow med student Liam, and the two are getting rather close. (What is it about shows naming all the love-interest characters these days Liam? It’s a little weird.)

The main reason that it is possible that Elena could even entertain moving on right now is simple: She has numbed herself to the pain of losing her love. She found out that she did love him at one point last week, but decided not to get her memories back for now. If and when Damon returns (and we are focusing more on the “when” of things here), we imagine that it is going to get more than a little bit awkward for the two to try and pick up the pieces here … at least unless Elena manages to figure things out and get her memory back by then.

We’re also just as concerned about what happens if Damon brings back, and he ends up in some way hauling Kai with him by accident. This guy is completely psychotic, and certainly not the sort you want roaming around in the real world by any means.
