TV Quick Hits: ‘Jennifer Falls’ canceled, ‘Black Sails’ season 2 premiere date, ‘Hollywood Game Night’ renewed
TV Land cancels “Jennifer Falls” – Jaime Pressly just cannot get a win these days. First, her new show “I Hate My Teenage Daughter” landed with a thud, and now, TV Land has canceled the single-camera “Jennifer Falls” after one season.
We’re pretty bummed about this one, mostly because Pressly is talented and this show had a “My Name Is Earl” reunion going on with Ethan Suplee in the cast. (“My Name Is Earl” was also canceled far too soon.) Still, we expected it given the long wait time here for news on the show.
“Black Sails” season 2 premiere date – It’s Saturday, January 24 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time! This series is looking to perform on a first season that was not the ratings hit that more-recent series “Outlander” has become for Starz. To us, that show has raised the bar somewhat in terms of network expectations. Still, there is a lot to like here … at least so long as you like really violent pirates who do things that are not always as rosy as you see in the movies.
“Hollywood Game Night” renewed – Like the cancellation of “Jennifer Falls,” this one was easy to see coming. Jane Lynch won an Emmy for the show, it cannot be expensive to produce, and NBC can plug it in just about anywhere. This show is never going to be an enormous ratings warrior, but is the perfect fill-in for a canceled show or a supplement to the summer lineup.
The new order of “Hollywood Game Night” is for ten episodes, and Lynch will return as the host.
