‘America’s Got Talent’ winner Mat Franco celebrates win on ‘Today’
We never thought we would actually be able to sit here and say that a magician won “America’s Got Talent.” This is a show that for many years, routinely favored singers heavily over anything else, regardless of whether or not they were that good. Even this year, we thought for sure with three solo singers in the finals that we were going back in that direction.
Luckily, that was not the case, and Mat Franco pulled off the victory last night despite being a magic act, and also not even getting the best performance spot during the show. Suffice it to say that there are zero things that any conspiracy theorist can point to in some lame attempt to try to justify his win over anyone else.
In the video below, you can see Mat on what was one of many steps of his celebration tour in “Today.” He did one of his patented card tricks, and the great thing about his talent is that he’s not a magic act reliant on huge stunts in order to surprise people. He can just do the smallest trick, and blow you away with it.
We stand by most of what we said about Mat during this final week, and that includes that he has the potential here to ultimately be one of the most profitable and successful acts to come out of this show. What he has going for him is ultimately quite a bit: Talent, a presence that would work in Las Vegas, and originality. We’d be willing to go as far right now as to say that next to Terry Fator, he’ll probably make more money than anyone else who has won this show.
