‘The Blacklist’ season 2 spoilers: More on a surprise guest star

The Blacklist logo any seasonWho would’ve imagined Paul Reubens playing a role on “The Blacklist,” especially one that is a villain? There are many things that have surprised us about this show, but this has to be pretty high up on the list right now.

So one other thing that may surprise you about this particular character from Reubens is pretty simple: This is not just going to be an evil version of Pee-Wee Herman. Speaking about the role today to TV Guide, showrunner Jon Bokenkamp had the following to say:

“He’s about the furthest thing from Pee-Wee Herman that you could imagine … He does not wear a bow tie. He wears a fabulous yellow turtleneck. He has quite a look.”

Reubens’ character is named Mr. Vargas, and his agenda is ultimately pretty simple: He wants to find those who are close to Raymond Reddington (James Spader), and then turn them against him in the most dramatic way that he possibly can.

This season looks to be a pretty exciting one throughout, and we understand why any guest star would want to appear on it ultimately. You have a great team of writers, and also some exciting roles that really welcome people with all sorts of talents and skill sets. Plus, this is a great platform. The entire first season performed very well in the ratings, and with that trajectory in mind, we really see there being any reason at all that the show suffers going into the fall.

Is there anything in particular that you want to see from this character on “The Blacklist”? Share your thoughts right now with a comment.
