‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ spoilers: Pepper returns!
How is this for a big surprise when it comes to “American Horror Story: Freak Show“? If you remember Pepper from the second season of the show, hopefully you have very fond memories of her.
Therefore, you should be happy that this character (played by Naomi Grossman) is going to return for more. Co-creator Ryan Murphy confirmed the news recently to Entertainment Weekly, where he did his part to explain why he decided to include this character into the story of the show:
“What Elsa has done for 20 years is she goes around to hospitals and jails and rescues these ‘freak’ circus performers who are going to be shipped away to asylums and she signs the waivers and she becomes their guardians … [This story] is sort of like what happened to Pepper before she went to the asylum.”
We’re excited to see Pepper again, but this is the first time that Murphy has gone meta with the story. Think about this for a minute: Pepper already knows characters played by Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, and Sarah Paulson. She is not brand-new to this world. This may be jumping the gun, but doesn’t the existence of a returning character make this show even less of a miniseries? We will find it interesting if this character does at some point down the road keep the show from submitting in its same category that it has in the past. We realize that this is an extremely faint possibility, but still, you never quite know just what is going to happen.
