‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ spoilers: Jessica Lange on playing Elsa Mars

“American Horror Story: Freak Show” has had itself an eventful production so far, and that is without us knowing that much about the characters. Luckily, it seems like some of that veil is set to be lifted.

On the upcoming season premiering October 8, Jessica Lange is once again front and center, this time in the role of freak-show operator Elsa Mars. What makes her stand out? As Lange tells Entertainment Weekly, there is an element to this woman, a German expatriate in Jupiter, Florida, who really is sympathetic towards the people in her show:

”My character is very manipulative … She understands what’s needed and she provides it. However the thing I want to be very clear that Elsa really loves these people. She truly cares for them in her own selfish narcissistic way. It’s not just exploitation.”

This report also confirmed a few other little details that we’ve heard already when it comes to this season. Kathy Bates will once again play the bearded lady, while you will see Michael Chiklis as her ex, who happens to be a strong. The two have a child together, played by Evan Peters, and he was born with lobster hands. As for where Angela Bassett’s three-breasted woman figures into all of this, she is the new main squeeze of Michael’s character.

There are some other characters whose stories are yet to be fully revealed (included that of Emma Roberts’), but we imagine that we will get a chance to see a whole lot more of that in the coming days. Stay tuned.
