‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ spoilers: Worth swallowing a sword over?

FX loves their teasers for “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” but is there a problem when we are a little more freaked out about something on “America’s Got Talent” than something in one of these videos?

The latest preview video below is all about the world of sword swallowing, and that in a way is the problem. It is very hard for us to get excited about sword swallowing as an over-the-top teaser for this show. We’ve seen it done so many times already on other shows, and often in much cooler forms. We’ve seen people literally do this trick with like six or seven swords at one time, and also people do it with curved blades.

Still, we understand why FX is going in this direction with their promos right now, since their top priority has to be to promote the show in the most traditional ways possible given the theme of this season. Plus, we don’t think that Ryan Murphy really is trying to scare you so much with this show as he is just making you uncomfortable. This is something the sword swallowing, or many other standard carnival tricks like breathing fire or walking on a bed of nails, can accomplish.

The new season will premiere on Wednesday, October 8, but have no fear: We’re going to have many more updates before then. Be on the lookout not.
