‘Longmire’ canceled by A&E; season 4 in doubt while studio shops show
Here is some news that we definitely did not imagine us writing at the moment. After three seasons on the air and record ratings for A&E, the network has decided to cancel “Longmire.”
Let’s start first of all (before we get into some deep analysis) by saying this: The move looks very bad from a PR point of view. One year after you cancel “The Glades,” you ship out your other most-watched scripted show? What precedent does this set? Are you going to cancel “Bates Motel” before that series airs? Sooner or later, you start to lose the trust of your viewership, which we believe has impacted some other networks like ABC Family and Syfy. If you’re on cable, it is imperative from our vantage point that you establish loyalty. Look at what FX has done, or what AMC is trying to do with bringing back “Halt and Catch Fire.”
In a statement, the network had the following to say:
“We would like to thank the phenomenal cast, crew and producers of Longmire, along with our partners at Warner Horizon, for their tireless work on three seasons of quality dramatic storytelling … We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.”
If we are really trying to make sense of the move, one thing that we will cite right now is the studio. As Deadline notes, the network is trying to lower licensing costs by doing more of their scripted fare in-house, and this comes from Warner Horizon. (Still, we’d think that the tax incentives filming in New Mexico would help.) Also, they smartly note that while the series did lose a chunk of its overall audience in season 3, it was still the most-watched show behind “Duck Dynasty” on the network, and did so without a lead-in at all this year.
The studio does plan on selling the show elsewhere, and while we’ll be doing a separate article on this tomorrow (most likely), the places that we’d send your campaigning to for now include AMC (the show would be a pretty good fit alongside “Hell on Wheels” Saturday nights) or Netflix, who already has the streaming rights.

Are you people crazy……why would A & E cancel a series like Longmire…
It’s full of great stars… and interesting story lines…….you most know there is a large following of viewers and is rated a 5 star program ?
I hope A & E reconsiders and supports the cast and crew by not showing them the door………….really this is so, dumb on A & E’s part……………….

This is the worst move A&E has made. Millions have enjoyed Longmire for the past 3 seasons, hopefully it goes to another station.

Longmire was the only reason I went to the Duck Dynasty Homophobe network. Glad to say A & E won’t have my viewership any longer. They lost my respect last year.

I am so upset by this news! A&E, I am done watching your shows. You did this to us with The Glades, and now with Longmire. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Longmire is an excellent show. I hope you reconsider this poor decision. Longmire is the only show I will watch on your network. If you don’t bring it back, I am finished watching your network. Why should viewers put the time and emotion into watching your shows? Don’t you understand that viewers get wrapped up in the show and want to see what happens? We get attached to the characters. Longmire’s ratings are very good. What’s your excuse for this cancellation?
I hope you reconsider your foolish decision and renew Longmire. If not, I hope another network is intelligent enough to pick it up.

Can’t believe this is cancelled. Can count on one hand the quality shows now viewing. Longmire was quality and the acting was especially compelling. Phooey!!!

I’m hoping Longmire gets picked up by a network that does it justice. Goodbye, A&E. I’ll never watch anything on that network again.

I am so unhappy. This was a great show with a great cast! I tried to send a comment to the network, but their mailbox is full. I wonder why…To not even give it a chance to wrap up the cliff hanger is just horrendously stupid. I won’t be watching anything new A & E produces. They obviously don’t care about their viewers or presenting quality programing.

A&E has a pretty big ego if it thinks it can manufacture a show with the quality of Longmire. Good luck with that…….Idiots.
