‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2 spoilers: Meet the new Absorbing Man
For those of you who have been calling for a greater presence of superpowers on Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD,” we come bearing some good news today: Your cries have been officially answered.
According to Marvel’s official website, Brian Patrick Wade (recently of “Teen Wolf”) has been cast to play Carl “Crusher” Creel in the show’s upcoming September 23 premiere. Creel also has a famous moniker in Absorbing Man. He is a powerful villain, and one who will put Coulson and company through hell for at least one episode.
We certainly love and understand precisely why this character was chosen, given that the show needs the presence of at least some people with superpowers, while at the same time they also most likely do not want to have anyone who is too iconic that they cannot then go around and use again in a feature film. This is a good balance, and we would not be shocked if Absorbing Man becomes a recurring villain on the series.
Wade joins what is now a very impressive list of guest castings for the show, given that everyone from Lucy Lawless to Kyle MacLachlan to even failed “Wonder Woman” pilot star Adrianne Palicki has been tapped to guest-star at this point. The cast is in place for this to be a much-improved season, and the only thing that we really feel like the show is missing at the moment is that one epic character who can do for this show what Malcolm Merlyn or Deathstroke have done for “Arrow.” Maybe one of the people evolve can evolve into that, but this show needs to be more than just a pretty good use of its license.
