‘Person of Interest’ season 4 spoilers: Exec on a very different sort of Machine
“Person of Interest” is going to feel in some ways like a very different show when season 4 picks up, with the primary one being that for the first time really since the pilot, none of our lead characters are in control. They are at the mercy of some very dangerous things, and much of that is due to Samaritan.
However, the thing that you have to remember here is that Samaritan is a machine, and not innately evil in its own right. Instead, it is a product of people with evil intentions, and that is what makes it so difficult to sway or understand. Speaking about this issue further in a chat with TV Guide, executive producer Greg Plageman said the following:
“There’s a fundamental difference in the way Harold Finch programmed his machine and this machine that Claypoool started and Greer corrupted … It’s not necessarily that we’re dealing with an evil machine, it’s that we’re dealing with one that doesn’t have humanity as its priority.”
You may have seen the new trailer for season 4 already, and one of the things we find so interesting about it is that it shows so many of the characters in a new place, dealing with fake identities as they try to figure out how they can overtake this New World Order. This is not going to be an easy thing for them to do, but that is part of the excitement of it. These characters have, after all, made quite a name for themselves taking on a variety of different challenges.
“Person of Interest” premieres on CBS come September 23, and we will have more updates soon!
