‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: Hugh Bonneville, cast have fun with water bottle faux pas
When you make a big mistake, there are a few things that you can do as a result: Cower over the fact that it happened, or try to laugh about it while moving forward.
When it comes to the cast of “Downton Abbey,” they’ve chosen to brush off a recent snafu over a water bottle with a smile. In case you don’t know what we are talking about, take a look at a photo below of Hugh Bonneville’s Robert and Laura Carmichael’s Edith, which has a certain anachronistic water bottle placed in the corner of it. This leaked out publicly, and of course embarrassed the ITV show greatly.
However, they are now trying to turn things around with the new image above, which they are hoping they will be able to use to encourage others to raise money to WaterAid. The show also posted the following message on their Facebook page:
“A publicity still released this week hit the headlines when a plastic water bottle was spotted in the corner of the picture. The official photograph of The Earl and Lady Edith was cropped and used during the launch of the new season, but it was when an uncropped version of the image worked its way onto the internet that it sparked a global press frenzy.
“After seeing the reaction the picture caused earlier this week, the cast and crew came up with the idea of turning some of this attention towards an issue around water that really matters … They hope that by posing for this picture they will be able to raise awareness and amplify the work of international charity – WaterAid.”
Even though this photo did create a mini-meme on the internet this week, it’ll be forgotten shortly. However, we can imagine what would happen if the show somehow managed to include such a colossal mistake in an actual broadcast.
