‘The Mentalist’ season 7 spoilers: Emily Swallow seemingly not returning as Kim Fischer
Sad news for those of you who did love Emily Swallow on “The Mentalist“: It appears as though the actress will not be back for the seventh season as Agent Kim Fischer.
This has been a rumor for the past little while due to a lack of sightings of her around the CBS show’s set, but she seemingly confirmed it in a reply to a fan on Twitter. This means ultimately that we had just half a season with the Kim character, which isn’t really a whole lot of time to figure out whether or not someone works in an ensemble. So why get rid of her? It’s hard to speculate, other than that the series is either trying to save money, or they are going in a slightly different direction.
Swallow first made a pretty-memorable appearance in “My Blue Heaven,” the episode that followed the Red John reveal, as she presented herself to Patrick Jane as a very different woman than who she is really. She was one component of the show’s reboot along with Abbott (Rockmond Dunbar), who made his first appearance late in the Red John saga. It also appeared at times like she could be in a love triangle with Jane and Lisbon, but that never completely materialized.
As Swallow said, we’re sure that you will see her plenty on TV still moving forward. As for “The Mentalist” itself, most suggestions are that the will return in early 2015. Whether or not it is January or March will depend heavily on how well some other shows on their fall schedule end up performing.

I didn’t like her character anyway because it didn’t fit in very well. And more important, Kim always looked like a replacement for Lisbon which I didn’t like because the shows about Jane and Lisbon. That’s what makes the show work. So I’m not sad that Kim’s not coming back.
