‘The X Factor’ UK spoilers: Who will Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole mentor?
The British version of “The X Factor” has officially moved into their next major phase of the competition, and is doing something very dramatic for the second year in the row: The six-chair challenge. We still do not love the twist per se, largely because it puts contestants in an incredibly traumatic situation where they are pitted against each other, and that’s serious pressure … especially when you have kids as young as 14 years old competing.
What we do know now are some of the specific pairings for the rest of the season, and they are fairly interesting given what you would think the specialties of some of the mentors would be.
- Mel B – The boys. Given that she is both a woman and also was a part of the group, we would have thought she’d get one of those two categories.
- Cheryl Cole / Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (depending on which name you want to call her) – The Girls. Didn’t she have this the last time she was on the show?
- Simon Cowell – The Overs. This one is surprising given that Simon didn’t have this group in the US show at all, and he hasn’t worked with them since season 6 of the British version. Maybe the appeal here is that he’s worked with people like Paul Potts and Susan Boyle, who found fame well after the age of 25.
- Louis Walsh – The groups. While it feels like everyone was qualified for this category, we don’t hate the placement here given Louis’ role with Westlife, and the fact that he made Jedward moderately famous and helped Union J get going.
For those wondering, we won’t be posting any specific outcome spoilers the rest of the way. We don’t want to ruin the show, but feel like there is little value on holding on to pairings until the show airs.
