‘The Fosters’ season 2, episode 9 preview: Mariana, Mat, and music

On Monday night’s new episode of “The Fosters,” we’re going to be seeing Mariana and Mat spending a good bit more time with one another. With that being said … is it going to result in any real fireworks? Based on the sneak peek below, we’d have to say for the time being that he may have botched this one.

At first, Mariana is excited about hearing that he is taking her somewhere involving music, but then she realizes that is a Mexican street festival. What’s going on her? With just the immediate reaction, there is so much to impact here.

From one vantage point, we see her being upset particularly about being linked to Latino music and culture just because of her own ethnic background. It would be like automatically taking an Italian-American to the opera, or asking a Japanese-American person to go have sushi.

It also feels like it is somewhat more complicated than that, though, since the Mariana character herself is going through some more struggles when it comes to her own identity and figuring out who she is as a person. Mat probably has the best of intentions when bringing her there, but you know what they say about the best-laid plans sometimes.

Ultimately, this is something that we’re going to have to see play out over the final weeks of the summer season, since there is a whole lot more story that cannot be featured in a single sneak peek.
