‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11 spoilers: Geena Davis tapped for major arc
For the 11th season of “Grey’s Anatomy,” Shonda Rhimes is bringing in some major star power. Specifically, she’s bringing on someone who already has an Academy Award and a Golden Globe in a trophy case somewhere.
Geena Davis, who previously starred on the short-lived “Commander in Chief” (which earned her that Golden Globe), has signed on for a lengthy story arc as the latest surgeon to walk into the Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. However, there is not a whole lot of information available about her beyond that. Who knows? Maybe she’s a relative of Derek’s, or someone super-accomplished to help pick up where Cristina left off in terms of talented people working there.
Regardless, it is always a smart move to try and surround a cast of regulars with as much talent as humanly possible, and that is precisely what is going on here. Also, it gives “Grey’s Anatomy” a little bit of buzz at a time it needs it. There are some who may be worried about the show without Sandra Oh, and there are others concerned that the new 8:00 p.m. Eastern timeslot, typically reserved for shows on ABC that are on their way to a quick cancellation, could be trouble. Hopefully, this at least gives them something further to look forward to (along with the already-announced return of Ellis Grey in flashback form).
The new season premieres on Thursday, September 25, and of course this is going to be one of several announcements that the show has in store for us prior to the premiere. You have to believe that there is going to be plenty more coming up in the future.
