‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Steven Moffat on Peter Capaldi’s new iteration
We’ve now made it to the latest milestone prior to the “Doctor Who” season 8 premiere, and this is the official start to the massive press tour! Over the next couple of weeks, Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are going to be doing a massive promotional tour literally all over the world, where they will promote the show and see various sorts of Whovians. In the end, we definitely expect this to be made available as some sort of special.
Everything started off in Wales, where the show (which is filmed there) had its big premiere event. Speaking to the region’s BBC Radio, we start off this tour with showrunner Steven Moffat sharing his following thoughts about Peter Capaldi playing the title character, and how this differs from the version played by Matt Smith:
“He’s a brand new, slightly shocking, extremely funny, charismatic doctor, and it’s that wonderful thing – he’s very, very different and yet he’s exactly the same … That’s is the thing about the doctor, the doctor is always kind of the same, but you couldn’t have a bigger contrast to the Matt Smith version.”
We are expecting a darker turn from Capaldi for sure, with one of the biggest twists being simply that this is not a guy who Clara is even going to recognize in some ways. She doesn’t feel like he is a best friend anymore; instead, he’s somewhat mysterious and frightening, and this will be interesting to watch play out.
The new season premieres on Saturday, August 23, and we’ll of course have more updates before that time.
