‘Girl Meets World’ episode 6 preview: What it means to be popular
It was only a matter of time before “Girl Meets World” had a story that dealt with the labels of “popularity” in high school, and we’re officially going to see that on the new episode airing on the Disney Channel Friday night.
What’s the basis of this particular story? It goes somewhere along the lines of this: Riley (Rowan Blanchard) is invited to what she believes is a gathering of some of her school’s popular students, only to realize soon after that she is just around some of the other “unpopular” kids. Meanwhile, Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) gets placed into the latter category.
You see some more of this in the sneak peek below, and it serves as a pretty nice (and even realistic) window into the soul of students. It’s not so much about being adored for these characters as much as being accepted. Being popular just means that you have lots of friends, and everyone knows who you are. However, sometimes these relationships can be hollow and made out of insecurity, and Riley will have to learn this.
If we could put ourselves in Cory’s shoes as he hands down a lesson to her, we would say that sometimes, you have to create your own popularity. Namely, be yourself, be confident in that, and then eventually some true friends will start to flock to you. Eventually, the cream does rise to the top, and you are in the situation that you were always meant to. Sometimes, it can just take a long span of time before you really get there.
