‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11: Ellen Pompeo doubles down, developing ABC Family show
Ellen Pompeo must be taking pointers from her “Grey’s Anatomy” boss Shonda Rhimes when it comes to being incredibly busy in the world of TV production. After all, she may now be getting into this world as well!
According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Pompeo is helping to develop a project right now entitled “Debt” that will be for ABC Family, and the story revolves around a young woman in her early 20s who works as an SAT tutor, and almost everyone around her is in debt. This project is based on a book about the 2008 financial meltdown, and should do a good job of showcasing what sort of difficult situation many are in not long after they graduate college.
This project is big for ABC Family in that this is a direction creatively that they have been hoping to go in for some time. They want to cater more towards the young adult crowd, which is probably at this point also the same people watching “Pretty Little Liars” since the audience tends to grow up over time. They are trying to get away more from just appealing to teens or older parents, which has been more of the strategy in the past.
As for how Pompeo is working to manage her personal life and this at the same time, think time management! Shonda runs multiple shows at the same time, and despite long hours, there is enough time away from “Grey’s Anatomy” (which is already filming) to work on other things.
What do you think about the idea of this show, and do you think that Pompeo could be a successful producer at some point? Share your thoughts with a comment, and head over here if you want to get some further updates on all we cover via our newsletter.
