‘Doctor Who’ season 8 premiere turned into event on BBC America
Just in case you somehow forgot, BBC America really loves “Doctor Who.” They love it so much, in fact, that they are already preparing all sorts of extensive coverage for the night that the show premieres on the network.
The BBC has confirmed now that on August 23 starting at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time prior to the first episode “Deep Breath” airing, the show is going to have some sort of pre-show hosted by Chris Hardwick. Wait, isn’t he an AMC / Comedy Central guy? You may think so, but there are a few things here worth considering:
- He originally had a Nerdist talk show on the network that aired around the time “Doctor Who” did last season.
- Hardwick is an enormous fan of the franchise, and even met his girlfriend at a fan convention for the show.
- AMC is currently negotiating to try to become a majority shareholder in BBC America, which will be a nice way to further line their pockets and establish original programming on the network.
Following the show, and after the premiere of the new drama “Intruders,” Hardwick will once again fulfill some hosting duties for “Doctor Who: After Who Live,” which we imagine will be stuffed full of more chatter about the show. Hardwick has proven to be the master of aftershows, and these also are extremely profitable for the network to keep people watching longer. “Doctor Who,” after all, is the most popular program on BBC America by a pretty wide margin … even if “Orphan Black” is also fantastic.
