‘Teen Wolf’ season 4 spoilers: Prepare for more Dylan Sprayberry now (and in the future)

Is “Teen Wolf” really starting to look already beyond the future with their current cast? We are starting to wonder that a little bit, at least based on the news that came out this weekend and also the overall direction of this season.

According to a new official press release, Dylan Sprayberry has been upped to a series regular for the upcoming fifth season, which to us means that you will be seeing a whole lot more of Liam. His arc on the show started out innocently enough, but since then the lacrosse player has become a wolf of his own, and is starting to learn the ropes under some less-than-desirable circumstances.

One of the reasons that we read into this story to a certain extent is thanks to the obvious realization that a show like “Teen Wolf” cannot go on forever when so many characters are not teens anymore. It’s already hard to buy Tyler Posey as someone still in school. So with that, there are two options for the long-term future of the show:

• Turn the series into “Young Adult Wolf,” and follow the original cast to college and elsewhere moving forward.
• Continue the show with younger characters, while either phasing out or reducing the roles of the original ones over time.

Personally, we would prefer more of the first one, since “Glee” already showed that trying to keep the show in high school with new students does not always work well. However, “Teen Wolf” may feel like they have no other option if they want to try to make this series a fixture for many years to come, and they don’t want to run the risk of more longtime cast members leaving and then having nothing to go on.
