ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4 spoilers: How Abby copes with Harrison’s death

We’ve started to receive a little bit of news as of late when it comes to “Scandal” season 4, but nothing yet about a woman who will be thrust into a very precarious position with Olivia Pope gone: Abby. Is she forced to run OPA without her, or will she disappear into a void for a little while and avoid trying to “handle” anything? Both are good questions, but we will not know anything official until the show returns to ABC come Thursday, September 25.

What we can at least say for the time being is this: She will be hit hard by the death of Harrison. Even though the premiere picks up some time after the character seemingly died, creator Shonda Rhimes tells TV Guide that you are still going to see Darby Stanchfield’s character struggle in a pretty surprising way:

“It’ll be devastating for Abby, but in a surprising way … I think you’ll see how she’s coping with it in a very different way than you would expect.”

This can of course mean a variety of different things. Maybe she is angry about the situation, depressed, or she actually starts to realize that maybe this is not the best line of work for her. What we’d really like for her is to get a big story that is somewhat independent of the other characters, and they have to start to slowly fold their way into what she is up to. She’s a character who really does deserve more of a spotlight than what she has been given.
