‘Glee’ season 6: More on decision to shorten Lea Michele, Chris Colfer’s last run

Lea Michele -Most “Glee” fans know by now that despite being originally given two full seasons to wrap up the show back over a year ago, the final season now has been trimmed down to 13 episodes. This is mostly the end result of disappointing ratings, which sagged so low during the season 5 finale that the show really could be something that airs on The CW at this point.

Now, the musical is not even a part of the fall schedule, and while Peter Rice of Fox dished on many of his programs, he did not offer up a possible premiere date for Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, and the rest of the cast’s last act. Instead, he just gave a very diplomatic answer about the reasoning for cutting down the final season from the original order:

“It touched so many hearts and brought social issues to the floor. It’s been on for over 100 episodes now and six seasons … we want it to go out in a way that celebrates it.”

So 22 episodes is not a way that celebrates it? This is what frustrates us about these Q&A sessions sometimes. We would much rather see a network chief just open up and be honest about a show not performing to expectations. This can still be a good ending for the series without having it last for a full season.

In the end, though, we feel like this will be the best given that “Glee” typically has around 5 or 6 episodes a season that are pure filler, and we mostly remember them only because of how silly and pointless they are. We’re thinking back now to “Funk,” that “Saturday Night Fever” tribute, or that one episode where Blaine got drunk and tried to play on both teams. These 13 episodes should be of a pretty high quality.
