‘Glee’ season 6 may have to change its name … at least in the UK

The wait begins -There’s some tough news for the executives over at “Glee” today; either they are going to be working overtime in the courts system in the UK, or they will be frantically trying to change as much of their merchandise as humanly possible.

Per reports coming out from across the pond, the show has lost a ruling about whether or not its name breaches a trademark for a company of clubs throughout the area. Production company 20th Century Fox, pending an appeal, will be forced to change the show’s name.

These sort of cases always fascinate us, mostly because we wonder consistently what the net positive of such a move could really be. Are the clubs really going to garner from the show not having the same name as them? It’s hard to say. It feels a little bit more for the time being like the real value of this case here is going to be all of the promotion that comes out of it.

The irony here for “Glee” is that this suit is coming at around a time when the show is getting close to wrapping up its time on the air in the first place. The upcoming 13-episode season 6 will be the last for the show, so if there really was any infringement on the part of the series, we’re not talking here about something that would last for a long period of time.

Still, we imagine that for the next season of the show in the UK, some of the cast members could record a promotional video singing about how much money talks. It can’t be good to be the producers right now.
