‘Hart of Dixie’ season 4: Confirmation on (some) things via TCA
“Hart of Dixie” season 4 is already in the process of filming, and we also have at least some official word on a couple of things from the CW’s panel at the TCA Summer Press tour today.
The first one is something that you probably saw coming from a long ways away, given what so many cast members have said to this point: There will be ten installments this season. That’s not a lot of mean to work with compared to the typical 22, but there a pair of very clear reasons why we are getting this:
- The show is not on the fall schedule, and it is not enough of a ratings titan to demand that it has a lengthy stint of episodes that go in succession in the winter / spring.
- Rachel Bilson is currently expecting her first child, and they need to get filming done before she is close to giving birth. A good comparable here is “Scandal,” which shortened its third-season run when it was revealed that star Kerry Washington was expecting her own child.
The only other major “update” was that it has not been decided yet where or when new episodes of the show will air, and we imagine that there will probably not be a firm decision on this for at least a little while. Why make a decision when you don’t have to? The likely story for producers here is that they will base their ultimate choice on how the shows on their schedule fare this fall. If something sinks in the ratings, it clears a spot for Bilson and company to pop in as a pitch-hitter.
We’ll have some further updates on “Hart of Dixie” season 4 when they hit the press, so be on the lookout for that. Also, you can sign up today if you’ve got a hankering to see some more TV news in your inbox via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
