‘The Millers’ season 2 spoilers: Sean Hayes signs on as new series regular

CBS -Just in case having Beau Bridges, Will Arnett, Jayma Mays, and Margo Martindale was not enough of a great comedy cast, we now have the following news: Sean Hayes is also joining CBS’ “The Millers” for its upcoming second season.

Sources confirm that Hayes, fresh off of the canceled “Sean Saves the World” as well as “Smash,” will be a series regular in the role of Kip Withers, a new best friend for Martindale’s character and someone who will not always get along with Arnett. This addition does make the show more ambitious, and it also brings on someone who knows the sitcom game rather well at this point. Hayes spent eight years on “Will & Grace,” but like many of the other former cast members he has yet to lock onto another series. Eric McCormack is the most successful one at the moment, largely thanks to the fact that he is the star of the TNT show “Perception.”

The biggest challenge for “The Millers” going into season 2 may simply be that the show will be off the air longer than most of the other ones airing this summer. Thanks largely to CBS airing Thursday night football, the show will not return until well after many other shows are up and running. “The Big Bang Theory” is going to be countering this by airing its first few episodes on Monday night; unfortunately for “The Millers,” they are not going to be anywhere near so lucky.

For now, what do you think of the Hayes casting, and is this the sort of move that could take a show like this in your mind and push it over the top? Let us know your thoughts, and if you want to get some more TV scoop worth laughing / cheering about now, sign up for our CarterMatt Newsletter.
