‘Teen Wolf’ season 4, episode 3 review: Stiles, Malia, and confusion galore
“Teen Wolf” spent quite a bit of time two weeks ago focusing on life-or-death situations in Mexico, and tonight we spent a good bit of time on … lacrosse and math.
There was a nice injection of humor, especially in the earlier part of this episode. This was a pleasant reminder to us that the show still does have that element to it, and does not always delve heavily in the realm of horror just because they can. They decided to give us a story of possession and disease, which contained quite a few horrifying sights to behold.
What we were left with when some of the wreckage made itself clear was simple: More death, and a sign that this show really is not afraid to hesitate at all to do shocking things to characters that we are just starting to meet.
Unfortunately, the problem that came with all of this tonight is that in between the humor, the drama, the action, and that Stiles / Malia scene that further polarized the fan base, there are about a million or so things going on. It’s become too complicated, and it seems to be suffering from the same sort of problem that many other shows have at this point in their life. They feel this constant need to “top” themselves, and with all of these supernatural creatures running around right now, all “Teen Wolf” really has going on is confusion.
Are there some cool characters moments in here? We’d say so, but we do wish that they did not get so lost in the shuffle. Grade: C+.
