‘Family Guy’ creator Seth MacFarlane to match ‘Reading Rainbow’ donations
Seth MacFarlane wants to do everything that he can in order to ensure that the “Reading Rainbow” campaign flies twice as high on Kickstarter. Just as the fundraising starts to wind down, the creator of “Family Guy” has agreed to match donations, dollar for dollar, up to a full $1 million.
We have been on the record in the past saying that we’re not the biggest fan of “Family Guy” in the world, but MacFarlane has shown time and time again that he is quite a friend to the entertainment industry … especially the educational variety. Seth is one of the big reasons why “Cosmos” ever got off the ground, and now he is doing everything that he can in order to ensure that the children’s series gets the $5 million that was a part of its stretch goal after meeting the $1 million mark in less than 24 hours.
LeVar Burton is already at work in ensuring that the series gets the second life that it so needs on a variety of different platforms. You may have watched the show growing up on PBS, but kids these days (we sound like such a geezer saying that) are not really checking things out programming in the way that they used to. Now, you’ve got things like smartphones and tablets and other devices that kids rely on, and the goal with this projects specifically is to ensure that disadvantaged kids are able to develop a love of reading in the classroom.
We’ll have some more on the “Reading Rainbow” campaign soon, especially if it reaches the $5 million mark. (Right now, it is around $4.3 million, but is picking up a little steam like many Kickstarters do in their final days.)
