‘Sex and the City’s’ Sarah Jessica Parker plotting return to TV
Here is what we can tell you for now about her new project. According to Deadline, Parker is set to star in a crime drama based on the book Busted: A Tale Of Corruption and Betrayal in the City of Brotherly Love. The bizarre irony here between this and “Sex and the City” is that she would once again be playing someone related to the newspaper industry. The only real difference is that this time, she would be either Wendy Ruderman or Barbara Laker, a reporter for the Philadelphia Daily News who helped to uncover one of the biggest corruption scandals in the history of the city.
Could this really work for Parker? We wonder, given that this is a completely different sort of series for her, and there will always be a part of her resume that is synonymous with Carrie Bradshaw. We would almost rather see her stay in comedy, though we do admire her taking a big risk and trying something very different. Crime shows are the rage all over again now, with the difference being that unlike the typical procedural, America is fascinated with ten-episode stories like “True Detective” and “Fargo.”
What’s your take on all this: Would a new Parker series work in this format, or is she better suited to playing it safe given the TV history that she has? Sound off below, and head over here to get further news on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
