‘How I Met Your Dad’: Is the Greta Gerwig project still alive?

CBS -It has been weeks since the upfronts for the major networks, and it has been just as long since there was some news regarding the future of “How I Met Your Dad.” This was a series that at one point, felt like a lock for a pickup at CBS. But whether it be for creative reasons or due to the blowback from the “How I Met Your Mother” series finale, the network decided not to pick it up.

Personally, we felt at the time and still feel like it is a mistake. There are going to be people who troll the internet and say “I’m not watching because they’ll ruin the ending again,” which is something that Damon Lindelof is facing now with “The Leftovers” coming up. However, at the end of the day why let that get to you? We also feel, even as someone let down by the series finale, that the journey was still so remarkable that it made it all worthwhile.

For those who are still interested in the project, here is what we can tell you for the time being. Per Deadline, the show is still very much alive, though it may need to undergo some more creative tweaks here and there in the event that a network picks it up. Also, Pamela Fryman, who directed the entirety of the original show and was an executive producer, had to pull out of this series do to a reported family emergency. She has since gone on to join the CBS comedy “The McCarthys,” which has the potential to be a big addition to its fall schedule.

With Greta Gerwig still on board as well as executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, we still feel like “How I Met Your Dad” has the potential to be a very fun series. It mostly just needs at the moment a network that believes in it, and then some time to ensure that the story is as great as it can be.
