‘Suits’ season 4, episode 1 spoilers: Series boss on Donna’s big role

Donna -

Tomorrow night, “Suits” fans can stop checking their watches: The show will be back in action! There are many new stories that lie ahead, and one of the obvious ones is the tension between Mike and Harvey that is going to come out of the new characters being at different ends of the metaphorical boxing ring for the first time.

So does this dynamic make Donna the referee? Not exactly; she is more like the therapist who has been around the two long enough to convince them that there is a better way to go about doing things. Sarah Rafferty’s character is going to struggle with the inevitability of bad things happening for these two characters, which is something that show creator Aaron Korsh touches on rather heavily in a new interview with TVLine:

“[She] sees the trouble that Harvey and Mike are headed for long before anybody else … It’s like when a parent sees two siblings playing and they’re starting to get intense about what they’re playing. The parent knows that’s going to end up in a fight, but the kids are like, ‘It’s fine. We’re having fun.’ The parent knows they’re having fun now, [but] this is going to end bad.”

Of course, while Donna is witnessing all of this craziness go down around her, the odds continue to be very likely that some of her own problems are going to be completely brushed under the rug. We see her as that amazing friend who is always there for others or is a step ahead, but nobody really has this same sort of relationship in turn with her.
