‘The Mentalist’ season 7: Looking beyond Jane and Lisbon
There have not been too many opportunities as of late to discuss “The Mentalist” thanks to the summer season, and also the fact that the jury is still out even on when we are going to be seeing the show again on CBS. We at least know that there are 13 more episodes coming, and if we were a guessing mad we’d say that spring 2015 is the most-likely destination.
In the times that we have discussed the show, though, we’ve spent the bulk of the time trying to figure out what could come next for Jane and Lisbon. It feels like the two are definitely a couple now, and this is the territory that is going to be mined and explored moving forward. It’s understandable that they would be the focus, given that they happen to be who just about everyone wants to be spending their time talking about right now.
But what about the other characters? We wanted to at least spend a minute or two trying to figure out what some of their own futures on the show could be.
Cho – Since so much time passed between the end of the Red John case and no, it’s hard to know where the guy really is at now. However, we have liked the romantic storylines for him in the past, and anything that causes him to lighten up a little. We’re down for more of that.
Kim Fischer – More than anything else, we just want to know her purpose. At first, we thought there could be a love triangle forming, but that did not turn out to be much. This character needs to be further established before anything else can happen.
Abbott – Keep the quirks coming! At first, we thought that Rockmond Dunbar was stuck with “stereotypical FBI boss” character, but as the season progressed there were some occasional little wrinkles that showed that he may actually be a fun guy to get a drink with off the job.
Rigsby and Van Pelt – They aren’t on the show anymore, but we’d love one last appearance in the seventh season (if it is the last, which is likely given where we are now) just to see where they are now.
What do you want to see from some of these other characters on “The Mentalist” the rest of the way? Share some of your thoughts with a comment below, and head over here in the event that you want further good stuff via our CarterMatt Newsletter.

yes, i’ve been wondering what is going on with this show. The network scheduled it for Sunday night which, in my opinion, is the worse time ever. it is always being preempted or delayed so that you can’t even record it half the time. Many times i set the recorder to tape only to find I have half of the Good Wife and the first half of the Mentalist. So frustrating. I’m wondering if CBS has written it off for some reason and it is a shame because it is my favorite and several people i know consider it their favorite too. Please, please reconsider and bring this show back at a better time.

I think something is going on with this show, behind the scenes, that we know nothing about. It’s like the show and/or Simon Baker has a “poison” sign hanging over the door. The show never gets any publicity, IMDB never even recaps any of the current episodes…. Did Heller, Baker, etc. do something to cause this? I am really puzzled because this is a good show…

I agree with all this except the Rigsby/VanPelt return. We are to believe they are out of crime fighting now, what more could they contribute to the show? They need to strengthen up Fischer and let us know what her deal is.

I’d like to know a little more about Abbott personally. He mentioned his wife in the season finale. Maybe we could see her. Definitely want to see more Cho, possibly a love interest for him.

If and when JISBON makes it official (not 100% sure), RIGSPELT will be a part of what will likely be the series finale. Not really enough time for either CHO or FISCHER to be developed fully without really pushing the story artificially. My favorite story-line for 13 episodes would be JISBON resolution and new story to free PJ from his forced work for the FBI. Could also live with a life or death story for either PJ or TL.

I’m hoping the Mentalist will start in September and have a full season. It’s the best show on TV.

Sadly, that won’t happen. While it has been renewed, it’s not CBS’ fall schedule.
