‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: Is Lily James dating ‘Doctor Who’ alum Matt Smith?

Mrs. Carter: Is Lily James’ romantic life starting to get as complicated as Lady Rose’s on “Downton Abbey“?

While we certainly would not answer the above question with a “yes,” there is certainly a juicy rumor out there all about a major move in her personal life. Per the Express, James has been spotted together with none other than former “Doctor Who” star Matt Smith, and the two may be in the early stages of a relationship. The two seem to be extremely private about whatever is going on between the two of them, as they scattered when they were spotted spending some time together recently. They were seen specifically at the Cannes Film Festival, which makes some sense given that the two are starting to become more and more immersed in the world of music.

As you may have heard recently, James is planning to leave “Downton Abbey” after season 5 in order to focus on the rest of her career, which includes a number of promotional obligations for “Cinderella,” the live-action version of the fairy tale that will be coming out next year. Specifically, she will be promoting the film at around the same time that she would be filming the series if she was still on board.

Meanwhile, Smith started to make the transition to movies before filming the “Doctor Who” Christmas Special, as he shot footage in Detroit for an upcoming film directed by actor Ryan Gosling. Smith has dedicated himself to both movies and the sci-fi convention circuit since wrapping up his time as The Doctor, as Peter Capaldi is now the man filling the famous shoes and is currently filming the eighth season.
