‘Mad Men’ season 7, episode 8: The past and the present with Harry Hamlin
So what does Hamlin himself think about the reaction to the character? He understands most of the hate, but he claimed to “The Today Show” recently that despite the adoration that is out there for Don Draper, he wasn’t really on stage telling any lies:
“Aw, man! I got so much hate mail for [saying he is a bully and a drunk]. People love Don Draper. … I told the truth — the guy is a drunk and a bully — but people do not like that.”
Hamlin joked that he would be “killed” before even walking out the door if he was to share anything at all in regards to the upcoming seven episodes that close out the series. We’re assuming that Cutler still has a role to play, given that he went along with the purchase of SC&P on the basis of filling his pockets. We’re not so sure we can say the same for some of the other characters, including the always-controversial Lou (who really has to be hating Don more than ever).
