‘Saturday Night Live’: Adam Sandler has no plans to ever return as host
There are not many opportunities where you get to discuss “Saturday Night Live” during the offseason, but this story is particularly interesting since you are talking about such a high-level star as Adam Sandler, and him never returning to host the show that he was once a cast member of.
Sandler left the late-night institution in 1995, which was ironically the same year that his smash hit “Billy Madison” first came out in theaters. However, it was not under the best of circumstances, as he and fellow cast member Chris Farley were forced out of the show rather than being allowed to leave under their own accord. Farley died far too young, and Adam has gone on to be one of the most profitable comedy stars of all time.
Speaking in a new interview with Norm Macdonald on his podcast, the “Blended” star now said that he has no real desire to go back and host the show again, claiming that he is “too slow” and also thinking that he simply would not be particularly great in the gig:
“There are guys who love doing it, who are great at doing it … I just don’t know how good I’d be doing it. I did what I could do on that show.”
Another reason why we don’t imagine Adam hosting? He simply has no reason to. While he is not at a Jerry Seinfeld level of wealthy, he is definitely rich enough that he has no need to ever worry about working again. He can do a movie when he wants to, and he doesn’t need to do late-night shows in order to promote it.
Do we want to see Adam try something new? Eventually yes, if only because we know that he is a much more talented actor than he tends to show most of the time. He just does not find that many roles that are in a wheelhouse other than silly comedies.
