‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 spoilers: Will Paul Wesley’s Stefan move forward?

Is it fair to say that the finale for “The Vampire Diaries” is a definite game-changer? To put it in such terms is really rather subtle, when you stop and think about it. Having two series-regular characters in Damon and Bonnie presumably out of the picture changes EVERYTHING, and for the rest of the characters, you have to start to figure out what the next move is going to be.

For Stefan, this is going to be an especially difficult time. After all, he may be willing to hang onto the possibility that his brother Damon is still out there alive. After all, why wouldn’t he? So many other characters have been able to come back from the dead in the past, and regardless of wherever Damon might be, there could still be hope.

According to executive producer Julie Plec’s  new comments to TV Guide, this is something that she and the writers are looking to explore when season 6 picks up later this year:

“It’s really a character-defining journey for [Stefan], and it’ll change him quite a lot … At what point does he decide to give up or keep searching for answers?” 

This should be something good for Paul Wesley to play, especially since it deviates somewhat from the fabric of the show. We understand that there are so many people out there who love to see the romantic aspect of the show, but giving Stefan something to do away from his feelings for someone other than his brother is a pretty nice change.
