‘Call the Midwife’ season 4: Vanessa Redgrave goes onscreen despite Jessica Raine exit
“Call the Midwife” season 4 just finished airing their third season in the United States, and it now appears as though we could be getting set for another shot when it comes to the Jennifer Worth (a.k.a. Jenny Lee) character.
By now, the majority of the show’s viewers know that Jessica Raine is no longer a part of the show, and has gone on to pursue some sort of career in film. This means that we’ll have no more of her in the world of Nonnatus House set up on the show. However, Vanessa Redgrave is continuing forward as the show’s narrator strangely enough, and we’ve now heard that she will also be playing a surprisingly different sort of role moving forward.
Sources confirm that Redgrave is going to grace the show as the mature Jennifer during the upcoming Christmas Special airing (natch) later this year, which will mark the first time that this incarnation of the character has appeared on the show. We’re personally somewhat excited about it, since it may serve as a way to further justify why in the world we are continuing to see the older version of Jenny tell this story … and that may have not been an easy task. While we understand the decision by Raine to leave the series and do other things, there is still little questioning that her departure creates more problems for this show than it would for some others where there was no narrator in her capacity.
