‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6: Ian Somerhalder speaks out on Damon shocker
At the end of “The Vampire Diaries” season 5, something happened that very few could have seen coming: The potential end of two series regulars.
Are Damon and Bonnie really gone from the show forever? The easy answer for now is no, given that executive producer Julie Plec said that both Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham are going to be back around in some capacity. what will that be? It’s hard to see, but we will find out just what was on the other side of that white light.
Apparently, someone didn’t give Ian the memo. It is either that or he is just taking advantage of the opportunity to troll most of us with the following post on his Twitter:
“So very sorry about Damon you all… Love, Ian”
We know that the internet is still freaking out over the thought of not having any more of the character for a while, and all we can say about that for now is this: Try not to worry. Everything is going to be okay in the end. If either Ian or Kat was planning to actually leave the show right now, there would be more elaborate articles written about it. The producers are not so cruel to want to lead you on about anything.
On a very different note, the other thing to remember here is that both Ian and Kat are still contractually obligated to do at least one more season, and maybe even one after that. While we are not intimately familiar with the winner workings of CW deals, many other network contracts have an option for a seventh season.
When something big happens that could alter the future for either one of these actors, we will let you know here. For now, just share your thoughts and predictions below, and head over here to get a further bite of TV news via our official newsletter.

I believe that Kat and Ian will only be appearing in Season 6 for flashback scenes or dream scenes and stuff. I know we all dream of having both Damon and Bonnie return from the dead (and the oblivion they ultimately faced) to become regulars on the show again, but it wouldn’t exactly work, since the Other Side is now destroyed. This season about saving the other side would then be pointless if Damon or Bonnie returned from the dead, and conceptually, I don’t think that would be a smart move. Though it would be painful only to see Kat and Ian making minor appearances through memories and whatnot, I do think that’s a smart move. Let them be for the first few episodes of season 6, then let them make their rounds more excessively in dreams and stuff, and then maybe at the finale, give everyone a little bit of hope by finding a way that MAY bring them back, if either actor/actress wants to continue their roles on TVD. Maybe in season 7, let them return if they want to (since Julie said she doesn’t think 6 will be the last season of TVD.) I think bringing them back through one of those first and middle episodes of season 6 would make it pointless to have even done a number of episodes in season 5.
