‘Community’ season 6 will reportedly not be coming to Netflix
You can now almost officially rule out Netflix as one of the potential suitors for a sixth season of “Community,” despite a pretty passionate campaign from fans.
According to Variety, a rep from the streaming service claims that they will not be looking into picking up the canceled NBC comedy, which officially rules out one of the few options out there that could feasibly pick up the show. Then again, we have always said that Netflix was unlikely, despite the glossy coat of paint on the company and their success with “Arrested Development.” Hulu is a more likely candidate, given that they already own the streaming rights to the show and it has been faring well on the service for some time.
Dan Harmon said earlier today in a lengthy blog that he would help to fight to ensure that the series could find a new home, even if that is a difficult thing to pull off. He cautioned fans that they should not get their hopes up too much. Reports suggest that there is at least one interested suitor out there, but it has not been named. Other than Hulu, we see Comedy Central (who currently has syndication rights) as the only other feasible option. Other than these two, the best-case scenario for the show may be having a Kickstarter campaign someday for the movie.
This is going to be a long journey ahead for the Save Greendale Committee, which basically is all of its fans. But remember that if the likes of Jeff and the rest of the gang can save their community college from Subway, anything is possible … or at least we hope. We’ll have more on all of this soon.
