‘NCIS’ season 11: ‘New Orleans’ pilot joins ‘Odd Couple,’ more with series order

Did you enjoy the “NCIS: New Orleans” backdoor pilot from earlier this year? Then you are probably pleased to know now that the show is going to turning this two-part “NCIS” season 11 spectacular into the full-fledged series you were hoping for.

CBS confirmed today that the series, starring Scott Bakula and executive-produced by Mark Harmon and Gary Glasberg, would become a thing in the upcoming 2014-15 season. This means that the network will have three versions of the same show, which is certainly a risky endeavor considering that they have less airtime this fall thanks to NFL football.

On the flip side, there are also reasons to give this a try. When you look at the CBS lineup in primetime, there are not any drama series right now that are drawing enormous numbers in the 18-49 demographic. Some of the ones at the top of the list are the two “NCIS” series, and even though the flagship has lost steam in the demo, it is still far and a way better than most everything else. The characters are likable and the setting is interesting; it will all come down mostly to if viewers want to give more time to this franchise, and also the quality of the stories.

As for some other CBS pilot news, the most notable one is the comedy “The Odd Couple” starring Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon. “Battle Creek” from Vince Gilligan already had a series order, and the jury is still out on “How I Met Your Dad.” Despite rumors, it has still not been formally picked up.
