‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 spoilers: Is Lily James leaving the series soon?
“Downton Abbey” has been known for producing great television, and also has boosted the status significantly of many of its stars. With that in mind, should you really be surprised with the news that some of them could be heading off to other pastures at some point? You really shouldn’t be.
For this latest rumor, we turn to a report from the Daily Mail, which claims that Lily James (who plays Lady Rose on the series) will not be able to participate in the sixth season of the show thanks to her commitments with the upcoming “Cinderella” movie that the actress recently filmed with Disney. The press tour for the movie would be taking place at the same time that the show would need to film the sixth season.
However, the difference between the exit of James and the ones related to Jessica Brown Findlay (Sybil) and Dan Stevens (Matthew) is that her departure is likely not to be as horrific or as tragic for the character. In order to keep the possibility open for an appearance on an upcoming Christmas special, the character will likely be written out of the season 5 finale in a way that allows for her to return at some point.
Rose has not been the most popular character on the show, but she has had some interesting moments. One particularly notable one was her romance with Jack Ross, the show’s first-ever black character who was almost unintentionally manipulated. Rose cared about him, but she was more in love of the idea of rebelling than being with him.
