‘Better Call Saul’ spoilers: ‘Laverne & Shirley’ veteran lands major role

Better Call Saul season 1We have one of our first original addition now to the cast of “Better Call Saul,” and it’s safe to say that this is not some virtual unknown.

According to Deadline, Michael McKean of “Laverne & Shirley” and “This Is Spinal Tap” is set to appear on the AMC “Breaking Bad” prequel series in the part of Dr. Thurber, a lawyer who has his limits thanks to some sort of mysterious affliction. Given his profession, it is hard to imagine him spending time with characters who are not named Saul Goodman.

The obvious irony here is that “Laverne & Shirley,” where he played Lenny for more than 100 episodes, was also a spin-off of “Happy Days,” so McKean has an understanding of what it is like being on a show with enormous expectations. We expect him to be very good with this cast, but at the end of the day, it call comes down to what Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould (who is set to be the showrunner on this show) plan on bringing to the table here.

“Better Call Saul” will begin shooting new episodes soon, and should premiere on AMC at some point in the late fall. Just as you would expect, this is just the beginning of the cast carousel for the show, and we will have some more on the subject as it becomes available. Hopefully, this includes finding out that at least a face or two from the original show will return for an encore.

What do you think about this casting: Love it, or wish that the first cast member announced was someone else? Share your thoughts below.
