John Oliver, Stephen Colbert each crash ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’
Who would’ve thought that Jon Stewart would have such a busy week tending to his former correspondents? We’ve basically just had a few days now of reminders that “The Daily Show” has become a talent farm on a similar level to “Saturday Night Live.”
The pool of former correspondents who have gone on to do other things includes Rob Corddry, Steve Carell, and Rob Riggle, though Stephen Colbert and John Oliver are the two that are getting the majority of the headlines right now.
When it comes to Stephen, this is all thanks to the simple news that he is going to be the replacement for David Letterman on “The Late Show,” which led to a very funny interview earlier this week where Colbert the character (a different man compared to Colbert the person) joked that “some fat guy” was going to be filling in for Dave. This appearance was to mostly announce that “The Colbert Report” would be ending, which Colbert the character claimed was due to the fact that there was nothing more that he could conquer on the show.
As for Oliver, John made a cameo appearance this week to promo the start of his new HBO series “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” which is slated to premiere Sunday night at 11:00 p.m. Eastern. There were a few funny lines in here, but the majority of the chat was spent with Oliver reminding Stewart how much cooler his job is going to be now. There’s no oversight on his new show, which means that he can swear as much as he wants without censorship.
In the end, both videos are worth some laughs … and also some nostalgia for longtime fans of the show.
