‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 10 spoilers: Could Caterina Scorsone come over full-tine?
Thursday night’s “Grey’s Anatomy” was an episode stuffed full of surprises. Not only did April realize that she is pregnant and Alex decide to leave the hospital, but we also saw the first appearance of Caterina Scorsone as Amelia since her days on “Private Practice.”
During this appearance, there were a few assorted updates on what her life as been like as of late. This includes a better relationship, but there is also anxiety about whether or not she can really have it all in between family and a good career. She is struggling with this, and this all was amplified further by the emotional scene with her following some time with Meredith and Derek’s children.
We know that it is feasible that we could end up seeing more of Caterina the rest of the season (or at least for next week’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”), but is it possible that her role is upgraded to full-time? She does have a close connection to the cast, and the show itself may also have some room for more regulars thanks to Sandra Oh, Gaius Charles, and Tessa Ferrer all leaving the show.
For the time being, there are no confirmed details on the subject, but Scorsone did tell TV Fanatic in a new interview that she’d be open to a larger presence on the show just thanks to her relationship with showrunner Shonda Rhimes:
“I think that I would do anything for Shonda! I think she’s such a remarkable woman and show runner and creative genius and I think if she wanted me to do one episode, I would do one episode and if she wanted me to do 500 episodes, I’d do 500 episodes. We’ll see what she has planned for you and then we’ll go from there!”
Her long-term future will most likely be determined by what happens in the next few episodes more so than what happens in the offseason. Rhimes likely knows that Scorsone would be happy to come back, so if she is going to play a larger role, you’ll likely see that written in to the story now rather than just see season 11 pop up with her suddenly living in Seattle.
