‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 spoilers: Unlikely and likely scenes collide

When it comes to sharing “Downton Abbey” scoop, we tend to be coy for a number of reasons. For one, this is a show where spoiling something that seems like a tiny thing could turn out to be a big deal; meanwhile, we know that Julian Fellowes would want it that way. Remember that this is a man who got rather upset over Richard E. Grant sharing something as simple as a photo from the set.

What we will tell you now in terms of teasers are as follows. The likes of Maggie Smith (Violet), Penelope Wilson (Isobel), Allen Leech (Tom), and Joanne Froggatt (Anna) have all been spotted out recently, with the latter two featured in a scene together. Since that is not a familiar occurrence for this show, it is worth noting that it happened. What could the purpose of this be? We’ll most likely have to wait to find out, but anytime that these two spend together outside of the Abbey is to us notable.

As for Maggie and Penelope, let’s just say that the two actresses were spotted at a location that they were similarly spotted at shooting the fourth season. It’s also a locale that we are happy to see again, mostly because it symbolizes that even as the show continues to move forward, it also is not straying for from the past.

The new “Downton Abbey” season will premiere on ITV in the fall as always, and then, the waiting begins until the show airs on PBS in America early next year. The habit of delaying the seasons is not stopping anytime soon.
