‘The Blacklist’ season 1, episode 19 review: Liz, Tom Keen battle in ‘The Pavlovich Brothers’
Monday night’s new episode of “The Blacklist” was in part about the Pavlovich Brothers, but let’s be serious for a minute: It really wasn’t about them at all. Instead, this episode really shined when it came to the moments between Liz Keen and her husband Tom.
We knew that there was going to be a battle between these two characters during the episode, and that it was going to be insane. After all, how would you react if you were in Liz’s situation, and forced to deal with the fact that your husband was lying to you about almost everything?
The big “reveal” that came as a result of all this violence and confrontation was that Tom was not who was cracked up to be again … maybe. Tom told his wife that he was never around to hurt her, and was simply trying to protect her as a part of his mission. He also promised that Raymond Reddington is not who is pretending to be, and gave her just enough information to further along the story.
Does Reddington know who Tom really is? That is what is interesting about this whole dynamic, and what made this episode fantastic. He seems clueless to Tom’s true motives, and this is one of the first times when he is clueless. There were so many nice moments for Red and Liz at the end of this story … but there are still questions all over the place regarding motive that we still have to figure out.
In the end, we don’t want to waste really anytime at all on the brothers. It was actually one of the better stories of the season from a procedural standpoint, but we’re much more concerned about the Keen family and everything else. This was a great episode of the show, and is quickly putting up on the path towards an epic finale. Grade: A-.

The Tom & Lizzy stuff was outstanding. As well as most of Red’s scenes. The other actors may as well be hired off the street – not much for them to do and their lack of intensity shows. The arab girl is actually fairly good but Diego and the others are crap. The Pop brothers were sappy.

Or maybe red really isn’t her father and lizzie is actually the daughter of the person that killed reds family…and tom really was there to protect her from Red.

Tom was prepared for any situation. Even Lizzie finding out he was placed in her life. The photo must show Red killing her adoptive father but how? She calls him a monster and wants nothing to do with him. How convenient to keep a photo in a vault. How is it Tom knows everything about Reddington and Red knows very little about him? Maybe Tom thought he was working for the good guys and his mission was to stay close to Lizzie because Red would find out and emerge to protect her. The trust is lost for Lizzie with Red. Season 2 should be interesting as we know that photo defines season finale.
