‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Travelers, passengers, and more confusion

We’re hoping that with the arrival of Markos on “The Vampire Diaries,” things within this series are going to start becoming at least somewhat more nebulous than they have been. So far, this has been the most confusing story that the show has ever led off with; there are cool moments (everything that Stefan and Caroline did in this past episode was pretty great), but without a great adversary, it’s hard to really feel stakes. This has been nothing in comparison to Mikael, Klaus, or some of the other madness of the past few years.

So what do you need to know for the stakes to be raised? How about this: A few Mystic Falls residents, including at least one regular, are going to be wrapped into the Travelers in a very unexpected way. Specifically, there may be a Passenger within them. This is a fairly nebulous scoop on a nebulous story courtesy of TV Guide, but if we were to say much more on this out of fear of someone from The CW coming and draining our blood.

But know that starting with the next new episode “Resident Evil,” things will start to get a little more precise for the show, and also make more sense. This has been a good-and-bad year for the show so far, since there have been major struggles that came with losing so many people to “The Originals.” At times, it relief on using doppelgangers just to cover up the missing links. Let’s hope the rest of the season builds on the way out so that it finishes strong, and has us set up very well for season 6.
