‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 15 spoilers: ‘Under the Dome’ alum signs up

Law & Order: SVU logoSamantha Mathis may not be “Under the Dome” anymore, but she is staying in the northeast region of the country (at least the one where all fictional stories occur), playing a part in an upcoming episode of “Law & Order: SVU.”

So who is the actress going to play? According to a TVLine report, she will take on an emotional role of a producers’ ex-wife, and she also accuses him of molesting their eight-year old daughter. In a word, this is difficult, and also far from the first time even this year that the Mariska Hargitay show has breached this sort of territory. Ultimately, we’re going to have the same exact philosophy on this one that we do any other “SVU” story that touches on something this serious: We will reserve judgment until we see the episode as for how it is presented and how much care is taken. Typically, the show does an admirable and respectful job tackling these stories.

Mathis’ role on “Under the Dome” ended last summer, and for the long-running NBC series, she is coming on at a time when there could be some flux. Wednesday night’s episode “Beast’s Obsession”, will hopefully mark the end for that gruesome William Lewis story, and get the show back to doing some of what it does best: Procedural storylines that address important cases and issues. There are few shows out there that we advocate having this format, but it suits this series well and keep it firmly on the list of “shows to watch in syndication when you’re sick.” We’re pretty sure at this point, there are enough channels playing it and “The Big Bang Theory” that you can go through without having to watch anything else.
