‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ review: Phaedra Parks and the cast press on

The latest -If there is a way that we can best describe Sunday’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta” episode, it would be as the calm before the storm. There have been times this season where we have been extremely critical of some of the editing choices, and also that producers allowed for an all-out brawl between some of the men to even take place.

At times, there has also been way too much of drama for drama’s sake. None of these series regulars are this point new to the show; they know what will get them airtime, and they’ll push themselves to the brink of it without causing any personal trauma for themselves just to get those big TV moments.

The reason that this episode worked a little differently is that now that the ladies are back from their vacation, normal life seems to be happening at times. This included more of the Kandi Burruss / Mama Joyce story that while irritating, it has some sort of real-life relevance since this is something that people actually go through on a fairly regular basis. The same could be said for Phaedra Parks trying to get herself completely through mortuary training so that she can spend more time with her families. This show is all about the “real” housewives supposedly, and this is more of what we expect them to do doing. Sure, there is drama from time to time, but there are usually no punches thrown or screaming matches that happen the way that they have this season.

One other part of this episode that made us smile? That when it comes to Kandi, we know that there is a happy ending on the other side of all this. She married Todd Tucker in a ceremony earlier this weekend, so clearly Joyce either came around or was just shipped away from the celebration.

While there is still too much nonsense and rehashing of old news, at least this episode tried. It’s a nice break before all you-know-what breaks loose soon. Grade: B.
